Workshop on Community Conserved Areas at Yesisotha

Kohima, September 3 (MExN): A one-day workshop on Community Conserved Areas (CCA) and Livestock Management was conducted at Yisisotha Village Council Hall on September 2.

The programme was organized by the Divisional Management Unit (DMU), Phek, Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), in collaboration with the Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMCs) of New Phor and Yisisotha villages.

The workshop brought together village leaders, JFMC members, SHGs, farmers, youth and community representatives to enhance awareness on biodiversity conservation and improved livestock management practices.

During the inaugural session, Ozo Venuh, Planning and Livelihood Expert, DMU Phek highlighted the objectives of the workshop.

Dzuthovito Lcho, ACF cum ADMU Head gave a brief overview on the Forest legal frameworks, biodiversity conservation, community rights under Community Conserved Areas, fire protection strategies, and sustainable harvesting of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs).

A special presentation on the genesis and evolution of Community Conserved Areas in Nagaland was delivered by Keneivito Christopher Sophi, Joint Secretary of the Nagaland Community Conserved Areas Forum (NCCAF), who shared experiences and lessons from pioneering conservation initiatives in the state.

The afternoon sessions focused on piggery and poultry management, African Swine Fever (ASF) prevention, vaccination and deworming schedules, breeding management, livestock insurance, government schemes and practical demonstrations conducted by Dr. Nusa Lohe, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, VAS Meluri.

The workshop was followed by interactive session.
