Dimapur, December 3 (MExN): World AIDS Day was observed at the Zeliangrong Baudi Hall, Jalukie town on the theme ‘Getting to Zero’ on December 1. The programme supported by NSACS was jointly organized by the Network of Peren District People Living with HIV/AIDS (NPDP+) and District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Peren.
A press note issued by District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit, Peren stated that about 100 people comprising of community members, church leaders, institution heads, NGOs, students, Red Ribbon Club members, HIV positive persons and medical staffs attended the programme. Dr. Tiasunep, District TB Officer Peren, was the main speaker in the programme. Speaking on the theme, he emphasized that World AIDS day is a time to re-commit ourselves and remember what ‘WE’ can do together. The speaker highlighted the theme ‘Getting to Zero’ is aimed at zero new HIV infection, zero discrimination and zero AIDS related deaths. He said that we are the change and only when we change can we change others. He further said that if we are truly convinced, we can always convince others. He urged all to join in the fight against HIV with awareness, precaution, and positive attitude and to show care and support for the Positive people. The speaker concluded that everyone can contribute in their own ways and only together we can make the dream of ‘Getting to Zero’ a meaningful reality. Dr. Riisietuonuo, MO i/c Link ART, CHC Jalukie spoke on the ‘significance of the day’. Also Khuikung, an HIV positive mother gave a sharing. The day was marked by a special song from the Red Ribbon Club members, St. Xaviers College Jalukie and a skit from the students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalaya, Jalukie.
