Imkongsunep Jamir who hails from Kangtsung village emerged as the victor during the main event Feather Pro category of X1 International Mixed Martial Arts Fight Night defeating George Lalmuanawma by a unanimous decision from the judges. The event was held at Indoor Badminton Stadium, DC Court, Dimapur on Saturday witnessing a huge turnout.
Imkongsunep from The Combat Academy, Nagaland told media persons after his win that although the fight is only for 15 minutes, yet the practice needed to be at least for one and half month and added that actual preparation takes yearlong. Imkongsunep informed that he has been in the field for the last five years and had been working very hard on his skills.
In the co-main event middleweight category, Victor Angami defeated Balajied Ryntathiang.
Speaking to media persons after the event, The Combat Academy, Nagaland, Director, Khriemelie Metha who was also part of the organizer informed that Imkongsunep Jamir is the first Naga professional combat athlete and also the first Naga to win championship belt in amateur MMA two years back. Talking about the event, Metha said, “Yes are showcasing fight but we are also showcasing energy.”
