Further, 12 of the trainees, who were initially placed in the country went on find work abroad in countries like UK, Italy, Germany,Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE, Bahrain and Qatar.
The NSRLM is the nodal agency for implementing the DDU-GKY in the state.
The combined remittances of the placed youths are estimated to be around Rs 3.6 cr monthly, with an average salary of Rs 13,500 per month. While stating that atleast 10-15 percent of the remittances are going towards supporting rural families, Imtimenla said that the NSRLM is focusing on designing skilling courses that would facilitate “foreign placements” with the impending DDU-GKY version 2.
The graduation programme was held at the Noune Resort, Chümoukedima, where the Minister for Rural Development & SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, handed away “offer letters” to 320 graduating trainees, who were trained by Project Implementing Agencies empanelled under the DDU-GKY. They got placements in various trades as food & beverage service assistant, four-wheeler service assistant, front office associate, nursery grower, solar panel installation Technician, assistant electrician and in the beauty & wellness sector. The employers included Nagaland based enterprises as well.
Minister Jamir termed the DDU-GKY trainees as role models, who would serve as inspiration for other youths idling away at home. Jamir encouraged graduates to be diligent workers and good ambassadors of the state and its culture as they embark on their new journey.
Underscoring the importance of skilling the unemployed, including the educated but unemployed, in a place with little to no industry, he said, “It has become more important than ever to ensure that our workforce is adequately prepared to meet the demands and challenges posed by new technologies and industries.”
Citing the significance of skilled labour to economic growth, he called for a concerted effort by government agencies, businesses and educational institutions to strive for inclusivity by ensuring access to training opportunities regardless of background or circumstances.
Joint Secretary, Imtimenla further informed that the NSRLM has set up a ‘Migration Support Center’ in Delhi for “placed candidates” from Nagaland working in the Delhi region. It can serve as a stopover point while proceeding to a place of employment or “while trying to change jobs and in other unexpected situations.”
