Zasevikho Meyatsu 26 years old son of Methalhouvi Meyatsu from Mezoma years old Village standing tall 5”9’, weighing 76 Kg was crowned as the champion of 2011 Hornbill festival wrestling championship today here at Amphitheatre, Kisama Heritage Village.
Mezhulhoukho Krose of Medziphema Village, Kedizin of Mpai Village and Azhopo Chuzho of Phusachodu Village won the second, third and fourth position respectively.
Adding to the championship with more colourful and impressive forms of event, Hideki Yamaguchi-a graduate from Japan son of Tanori Yumaguchi from Japan who visited the festival for the first time as tourist after reaching the heritage village decided to compete in the championship. This was indeed a great encouragement for all the indigenous sports lovers. Hideki a Judo Japanese player made it into the Pre-Quarter final after defeating former Northern Angami Wrestling Championship winner Khrievotuo Sekhose.
While interacting with the Morung Express, Hideki expressed happiness over his participation and added that he was fully satisfied with the event championship.
When queried whether he has any plan to visit the forthcoming Hornbill festivals, “after competing in the championship I am determined to come back to the festival with special focus to participate in the Naga style wrestling next year”. He said he would definitely prepare himself to be the winner adding he is still a bachelor and after winning the championship would marry a Naga girl and make his way to Japan.
Stating Nagas and Japanese were from the same race, he expressed fondness for the Nagas and said he would continue to build cordial relationship with the Naga brothers and sisters.
Sanen Longchari the first from Ao community also participated. Mhombemo Patton from Lotha community who is participating in Naga style wrestling championship for the second time after taking part in the 7th Naga Open Wrestling Championship last years took part in the championship. Mhombemo won one bout in the first round.
Mention may be made that last year champion Sazonyi Vadeo and first runners up Zhokho Lala also made their exit in the quarter final.
Altogether 32 wrestlers-, Hideki Yumaguchi from Japan, Mhombemo from Lotha, Sanen Longchari from Ao community, 9 from Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) 20 each from Angami Sports Association (ASA) and Zeliang Wrestling Association, fought for the coveted title.
The four winners in the championship walked away with a cash prize of 30,000/-, 20,000/-, 10,000/- and 5,000/- along with citations respectively. The championship was organized by the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) and was sponsored by the department of Tourism.
Earlier, NWA President Hairang Lungalang gave introduction while Commissioner & Secretary for Tourism, Art & Culture Himato Zhimomi IFS declared the championship open while Director of Tourism conducted the oath of affirmation.
