Zeliangrong demands special package

Dimapur, December 29 (MExN): Zeliangrong frontal organizations are seeking “special developmental packages for the Zeliangrong people living in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.”

The Zeliangrong Baudi of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland and All Zeliangrong Students’ Union of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland issued a copy of a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister of India seeking the “special developmental package.” According to the memorandum the packages, if granted, would usher “all-round socio-economic growth and development of the Zeliangrong people.”

The ‘packages’ the two organizations sought are a “Rani Gaidinliu central university” in Peren district, Nagaland, a “Rani Gaidinliu hospital” in Laisong, NC Hills, Assam, a “Rani Gaidinliu house” in New Delhi, a “Rani Gaidinliu cultural centre” in Longmai, Tamenglong in Manipur, a “Zeliangrong Riffles” and enhancement of road connectivity in the “Zeliangrong areas of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.”

“May we remind you that Zeliangrong, the people of Rani Gaidinliu and Haipou Jadonang, living in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland because of our subaltern/minority status are the most deprived and excluded sections of the community in the three states,” the memorandum stated. For instance, the organizations said, in Manipur’s Tamenglong district inhabited by Zeliangrong people, “the first west district in Manipur is now the most backward district in Manipur. Similarly, North Cachar Hills in Assam and Peren in Nagaland inhabited by the Zeliangrong people lag behind others districts in all aspects.”

According to the ‘Baudi” and the union, “our beloved honorable Prime Ministers Smt Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi” and the Zeliangrong people “established a special and warm relationship under the leadership of Rani Gaidinliu especially under the banner of the Zeliangrong People’s Convention.”

The memorandum explained further that “our two prime ministers” had “assured many developmental packages for Zeliangrong people like, union territory, Zeliangrong developmental authority, etc” but none of them materialized “due to the untimely demise of our beloved prime ministers.”
