Zunheboto: Teachers trained on foundational literacy and life skills

A one-day training programme for Volunteer Teachers under the Department of School Education, Government of Nagaland, focused on Adult Education and Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society (ULLAS), was held at the VDB Hall, Zunheboto, on April 8.

The programme covered foundational literacy and numeracy as well as critical life skills. The keynote address was delivered by Zhokupa Hoshi, Assistant Project Officer (APO). He elaborated on ULLAS as a tool to inspire, assess and examine basic knowledge. He stressed that the role of a teacher is similar to that of an educational missionary, with ongoing sacrifices. He also emphasised that educating illiterate individuals who are idle at home is a primary objective.

Aboto, Master Trainer, discussed the New India Literacy Programme (NILP), foundational literacy and numeracy under ULLAS, and critical life skills. He mentioned that ULLAS is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Shikaho Chophy, ToT at the Educational Block Resource Centre (EBRC), highlighted the importance of understanding the reading and writing processes. Illato Sumi, Master Trainer, discussed the implementation strategy for ULLAS, as well as assessment and certification. Tovito H Kiba, ToT at EBRC Aghunato, focused on the ULLAS app and the way forward.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Sukhali P Sema, Trainers of Teachers (ToT) at Satakha, Educational Block Resource Center (EBRC). The welcome address was delivered by Kenneth Jakha, ADEO, Zunheboto, who emphasized the importance of supporting teachers and enhancing the quality of teaching. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Loino V Zhimo, Supervisor of Adult Education. 

The training session was attended by 135 Volunteer Teachers with 34 from Satakha Block, 26 from Zunheboto, 30 from Aghunato, 22 from Akuluto and 23 from Pughoboto.
