Kohima, October 7 (MExN): Four students’ unions of the Chakhesang, Pochury and Rengma and Zeliangrong communities today said they have never sought any “special recruitment” for the “less represented” tribes from the State and advised the Nagaland government to be realistic in implementing the reservation policy. Ridiculing the government’s handling of the reservation policy, appeasing only sections of the communities, the unions have asked the state government to “dispense justice” for “both categories of tribes”. The Chakhesang, Pochury, Rengma and the Zeliangrong students’ union issued a joint statement today cautioning the state government to “dispense justice for both the categories of tribes in Nagaland to satisfy the law of the land and restrict such recruitment within the frame work of the policy on job reservation.”
“The apex tribal students urged the state government to be realistic in its approach and implement its policy and programme without fear and prejudices and uphold the policy and vision of the state.”
Referring to the “special recruitment drive” (four EAC posts), the unions condemned the ‘attitude of the state government’ in handling the issue of recruitment and reservation for the state’s citizens.
The statement said – “The aforesaid tribal bodies had at no point of time approach the state government for special recruitment drive but to implement the existing recruitment policy in letter and in spirit without any discrepancy. The tribal students’ decried the color and insincerity of the state government whereby the state bends its policy to appease section of people against the other with temporary and unscrupulous decision which could not see a day light that has painted a very poor image of governance and lack of vision.”
The unions also noted that the state is now “infested” by backdoor appointments and manipulation at the whims and fancy of the people in power who do not address the need on the ground. “This act of inconsistency and flexibility by the state in destroying the principles of democracy, Government of the day have enough options if willing to address the genuine grievances of the less represented tribes without going of way contradicting its own laid down policy guidelines,” the unions said.
