KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 29 (MExN): The Kohima Excise personnel manning the Khuzama inter-state check gate seized around 12,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup in what has been described as one of the biggest such seizures in Nagaland in recent times.
According to a press release issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Excise (Zonal) & Prohibition, Kohima, the seizure took place on September 27 at around 2:30 PM when an Assam-registered vehicle was intercepted and thoroughly checked.
The Department duty party by Khesangmeu AIE i/c detected approximately 12,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup neatly packed inside 100 carton boxes, estimated to be worth around Rs 30 lakh in the domestic market.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Merajul Islam (20 years), a resident of Nagaon district, Assam, was apprehended on the spot.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, and the matter is under active investigation, the release added.
