139 Assam Rifles jawans undergo beekeeping training in Dimapur

Dimapur, March 16 (MExN): A five-day Basic Beekeeping Training Programme for 139 jawans from various units of the Assam Rifles was conducted at the 15 Assam Rifles Headquarters, Kashiram, Dimapur, from March 10 to 14.

The training programme was organised by the Assam Rifles in collaboration with the Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission with the objective of equipping jawans with practical knowledge and skills in beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood and income-generating activity.

Resource persons C. Francis Kikon, Athungo N Ngullie and Temjenchuba K Char from the Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission conducted the sessions, providing both theoretical knowledge and practical demonstrations.

The training covered various aspects of beekeeping including introduction to beekeeping, identification of bee species, hive management, colony multiplication, seasonal management, honey harvesting and processing, and value addition of bee products.

During the programme, participants were also sensitised on the role of beekeeping in environmental conservation and pollination, highlighting its importance in enhancing agricultural productivity and biodiversity.
