Case discovered at daughter's medical checkup

A 59 year-old man was arrested by the police in Kohima for allegedly raping and impregnating his minor biological daughter. The incident came to light on October 24 when the 12 year-old pregnant minor was taken for a medical check-up in Dimapur by her mother and a sibling. She was reportedly in the third trimester of pregnancy.
The suspect, a retired police personnel, was arrested by the Women Police Station, Kohima, on the same day the matter was reported by the health facility where the minor was brought for a medical review. The matter was brought to the notice of the Childline, which reported it to the Dimapur police and on to the Kohima police.
The minor was subsequently placed in institutional care.
The Kohima police could not be reached for comment but as per reliable sources, the alleged incestuous sexual abuse began in 2025 when the victim was 11 years old.
The accused was produced before a court and remanded in police custody for three days before being sent to judicial custody on October 28. The police were also investigating the role of the biological mother in connection with the case.
“The minor was rescued, and counseling was provided to facilitate medical attention,” a source said.
