The CRPF took its Civic Action Programme (CAP) to the people. One of its field units, the Bravo Company of the 173rd Battalion stationed at the CIHSR, handed away food items and solar lamps to needy sections of the community in Chümoukedima, under the programme on September 25.
During the drive held at the Bravo Company camp in CIHSR, 4th Mile, the unit distributed solar lamps to 16 beneficiaries and essential food items to around 10 families, which included an orphanage located in Chümoukedima.
Seyiezo Peseyie, ADCP, Chümoukedima, attended the programme as the chief guest. Gaonburas of Diphupar and Naga United villages were also present.
Bravo Company Assistant Commandant Akai Sumi stated that the unit organised the event at the company level in accordance with instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Explaining the purpose of the initiative, Sumi said the programme seeks to bridge communication gaps between the public and security forces.
“Civilians and force (security) personnel are like two different sides of the same coin. If one does not exist, the other cannot survive,” Sumi said.
He said that while civil authorities maintain law and order, security personnel enforce those orders at the ground level, which sometimes leads to friction with the civilian population.
“Sometimes while discharging our duty, misunderstandings occur between civilians and force personnel,” Sumi said. He added that the outreach programme was organised to improve relations, and ensure that people live in peace and harmony within the society.
