CNTC welcomes peace dialogue with NSCN-K (Ang Mai) in Myanmar

Urges Govt of India and to initiate similar truce

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 25 (MExN): The Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has welcomed the recent “formal peace talks and signed record of discussions” between the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) delegation and Myanmar’s National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) in Nay Pyi Taw on October 22.

A press release from the CNTC said it has “consistently maintained that peaceful engagement, mutual understanding, and the cessation of hostilities are essential prerequisites for long-term stability and socio-economic progress across all Naga-inhabited areas.” The CNTC appealed to both the Government of India and the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) leadership to follow suit and enter into a formal ceasefire agreement.

“Establishing an official truce between the Government of India and the Ang Mai faction would mark a significant step forward in fostering regional harmony, ending armed confrontation, and creating an inclusive environment for political reconciliation,” it stated. The CNTC said that “decades of conflict have placed an enormous strain on border communities, hindering infrastructure development, trade, and public welfare.”

The CNTC believed that lasting peace cannot be achieved in isolation; true stability requires bringing all active groups into the fold of constructive dialogue. The council reiterated its “full commitment to supporting all genuine peace initiatives and urges both New Delhi and the leadership of NSCN-K (Ang Mai) to exercise political foresight by initiating a ceasefire in the greater interest of the Naga people.”
