CHIZAMI, DECEMBER 15 (MExN): The 53rd Chizami Sports Association Meet 2024 is in full swing at the Chizami Local Ground, having officially kicked off on December 12. The event was inaugurated by Wezope Kenye, Agriculture Production Commissioner and Secretary of the Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs Departments. He also declared the meet open, underscoring the important role of sports as a universal language that fosters teamwork, mutual respect, and shared goals.

In his address, Kenye compared the essence of sports to that of football, emphasizing the collective effort required for success, where each role plays a vital part. He also highlighted the values that sports instill, such as fairness, discipline, and perseverance. According to Kenye, athletes carry the responsibility to inspire others through their conduct, both on and off the field. He also recognized the role of digital games like Mobile Legends and PUBG, noting how they reinforce teamwork and strategy, bridging divides and connecting players across different locations.

Kenye expressed gratitude to the event organizers for their dedication in hosting a vibrant and inclusive meet, calling it a celebration of unity and mutual respect. 

On Day 3 of the meet, the spotlight fell on the traditional Naga Wrestling competition, a thrilling event held in two categories-Senior and Under-14. Veyielo Doulo, Director of Tourism, attended as the special guest. He highlighted the potential for traditional wrestling, particularly belt wrestling, to evolve into a professional sport. He also emphasized the significance of discipline and peace-building, both on and off the field, as foundational to growth and harmony in the community. Doulo further enriched the event with a generous contribution of Rs 1.67 lakh.

The wrestling competitions featured exceptional displays of talent and sportsmanship. In the Senior category, Mewetu Tsuhah emerged as the champion, with Wewate Lasuh taking second place. In the Under-14 category, Kesowe Kenye claimed first place, followed by Pfunyi Lohe as the runner-up. 

The 53rd Chizami Sports Association Meet will conclude on December 17, with Colo Mero, Vice-President of the Nagaland Football Association, set to grace the event as the Valedictory Guest.
