The 7th edition of the Mokokchung Inter-Ward Football Tournament 2026 commenced on Tuesday at the football ground of Senayangba Government Higher Secondary School, Ungma, with participation from 14 wards across the town.
The tournament is organized by the Marepkong Youth Association under the aegis of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA), under the theme “Rise As One.”
Gracing the inaugural programme as Guest of Honour, Lanuakum, Deputy Chairperson of Mokokchung Municipal Council, marked the official opening of the tournament.
A total of 14 wards—Dilong, Tongdentsuyong, Alempang, Penli, Sungkomen, Sangtemla, Kumlong, Marepkong, Mongsenbai, Yimyu, Lijaba Lijen, Arkong, Majakong and Artang—are competing in this year’s edition. The teams have been divided into four pools, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the knockout stage. The final match is scheduled to be played on April 4.
In the opening day fixtures, defending champions Dilong Ward suffered a 1–4 defeat against Tongdentsuyong Ward. In the second match, Penli Ward secured a 3–1 victory over Alempang Ward. The third and final match of the day saw Sangtemla Ward defeat Sungkomen Ward 4–2.
The tournament champions will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 along with certificates, while the runners-up will receive Rs 30,000 and certificates. In addition, five individual awards will be presented for Highest Scorer, Player of the Tournament, Best Defender, Best Goalkeeper, and Best Midfielder.
