Inter-state drug racket busted in Dimapur

3 kg suspected narcotics seized; 3 arrested

Dimapur, November 4 (MExN): Dimapur Police on Tuesday seized approximately 3 kg of suspected narcotic drugs and arrested three persons near Patkai Bridge Junction in a major operation against inter-state drug trafficking, a senior officer said.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the transportation of narcotic substances in two vehicles, a special operation was conducted and the vehicles were intercepted at around 2:10 PM, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/PRO, Dimapur, said in a press release.

A subsequent search, conducted in the presence of a Gazetted Officer and independent witnesses, led to the recovery of approximately 3 kg of suspected narcotic substances concealed inside the spare tyre of one of the vehicles, the release said.

The three arrested persons have been identified as Robinson Abonmai (44), Jeta Rai (39) and Ab Wilamdinnang (37), all residents of Senapati District, Manipur.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the consignment was sourced from Churachandpur, Manipur, and was being transported to Guwahati, Assam.

Further investigation is underway to identify the intended recipient, trace the entire supply chain and establish possible linkages with wider inter-state drug trafficking networks, the release said.

A case has been registered at Chümoukedima Police Station under Section 21(c) of the NDPS Act, 1985, read with Sections 111 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Dimapur Police said it remains committed to taking firm action against drug trafficking and dismantling organised narcotics networks, and encouraged members of the public to share credible information on drug-related activities with the nearest police station, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
