Dimapur, April 15 (MExN): Amid the uproar over the alleged regularisation of 147 contractual posts of Assistant Professors and Librarians in the Department of Higher Education (DHE), ACAUT Nagaland has demanded the removal of the incumbent Higher Education Minister.
Accusing the minister of being “inefficient,” ACAUT Nagaland called for replacing the incumbent with a “more sensible and qualified person” to oversee the department.
Conveying its vehement opposition to what it called the “irrational moves” of the state government, ACAUT Nagaland demanded the immediate revocation of the regularisation order and that all sanctioned posts be requisitioned to the NPSC and NSSB.
It cautioned that it would pursue legal recourse if the government fails to do so.
According to ACAUT Nagaland, as an instrumental department in shaping and developing society through the selection of qualified faculties to produce vibrant and brilliant students, the DHE must ensure fair and just decisions at all times.
In this regard, it termed the Cabinet’s September 11, 2024 decision to approve the absorption of 151 Assistant Professors serving on fixed pay as a one-time dispensation as “blatant and totally unethical.”
“The credibility of the state government is questionable, and this decision is detrimental to the aspirations of the entire pool of qualified candidates who are vying for positions through legitimate and competitive means,” ACAUT Nagaland added, reiterating its demand for the minister’s removal.
The ACAUT Nagaland also reminded that in 2016, it filed a writ petition in the High Court along with the Public Service Aspirants of Nagaland (PSAN) against various illegal/backdoor appointments that have affected many cases of service regularisation. The petition challenged the appointment of 607 Class-I and Class-II NPSC posts across 32 departments, it added, without elaborating further.
