'Administering Dmr will be challenge'

Dimapur, August 8 (MExN): The new Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur would be focusing on the chief menace ailing the state’s only commercial city, crime and criminal activities.  The new administrator for Dimapur, N Hushili Sema, IAS, formally met with Dimapur press personnel at the DC’s office chamber on August 8.  
Holding the post as Deputy Commissioner for more than a week, Hushili admitted with candor that she took the job with apprehensions. “It is a challenging job to be the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur,” she said, because unlike other districts Dimapur has multiracial inhabitants.
During the meet, Hushili highlighted some grave issues that she as an administrator was concerned about. She acknowledged that crimes in Dimapur have escalated, especially this year. She also pointed out that the most important is atrocities committed against women. To tackle these issues, she opined that it is not only the police and district administration or women organizations that is sole responsible. She urged the men folk, and mainly those representing various organizations to work towards changing the mindset of people, and stand up against these crimes.  She also sought the involvement of church to speak against these evils, she stated.
Also touching on the “lawlessness” situation in Dimapur, Hushili revealed that an interaction with police was held recently. “We are all in one accord. We have to get rid of these menace,” she said referring specifically to extortion and taxation, and added optimistically, “In due course of time, things will come under normalcy.”
Sema also stated that the police, district administration, civil society should work together in order to be successful in bringing about peace and some kind of security to the citizens. She sought cooperation and urged the citizens to assist the administration and the public in nabbing those culprits involved in taxation. “Identifying, and reporting the problems would help solve these problems, of which active participation from the public is required,” she said.
Sema also highlighted the problems faced by Dimapur public because of traffic congestion and informed that after Independence Day celebration on August 15, she will be sitting down with police officers, the municipal and various organizations to work towards streamlining the flow of traffic in the city. Regarding the condition of roads in Dimapur, she said that fillers have already been sounded out to the concern department regarding bad roads, and pot-holes.
The DC expressed confidence that not only the administration and police but the civil society will also come forward and lend a helping hand towards bringing peace and harmony. “In a nutshell, this is what I would like to do and I’m sure together all of us will make things happen,” she stated.
