Five arrested including key supplier and delivery agent
Dimapur, August 1 (MExN): Dimapur Police have busted an organised interstate drug trafficking syndicate with links across three states and a Nigerian national, arresting an alleged major cocaine supplier and four others, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/PRO, Dimapur, said on Saturday.
The investigation has revealed that the syndicate allegedly procured and distributed cocaine through commercial courier and parcel delivery channels, including through DTDC Courier Services, using a structured network of suppliers, handlers and delivery agents, police said.
A case has been registered at West Police Station, Dimapur, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and approximately 33 grams of suspected cocaine has been seized and sent for forensic examination, they said.
As part of the coordinated operation, five people have been arrested so far — Tohuka Sema alias Toka (35), the alleged major cocaine supplier based in Dimapur; Yeka Awomi (30), apprehended from Pune, Maharashtra; Biresh Kumar (22) and Akhtar Hussain (35), both apprehended from Delhi; and Swantheiba Inkah (25), a delivery agent allegedly involved in facilitating the movement and delivery of the contraband, police said.
Two more accused, presently based outside Nagaland, are absconding, and sustained efforts are underway to secure their arrest, they said.
Preliminary investigation indicates the syndicate operated in an organised manner, with clearly defined roles for procurement, payment layering, interstate transportation, courier-based delivery and distribution of cocaine through commercial logistics channels, police said.
The investigation has also uncovered interstate and international linkages, including the alleged involvement of a Nigerian national, they said, adding that further investigation is in progress to identify additional associates, financial transactions, customers and the full extent of the organised network.
Dimapur Police reiterated its firm commitment to dismantling organised drug trafficking syndicates and ensuring that all persons involved in the illicit narcotics trade are brought to justice under the NDPS Act, 1985.
Members of the public have been requested to cooperate with the police by sharing any credible information relating to narcotics trafficking, with an assurance that all information received will be treated with strict confidentiality, the DCP (Crime)/PRO said.
