MLA and Advisor for Water Resources Tongpang Ozukum interacts with officials and local representatives during his visit to the landslide-affected areas under Chuchuyimlang on July 25.
Mokokchung, July 26 (MExN): MLA and Advisor for Water Resources Tongpang Ozukum on Saturday visited landslide-affected areas under the Chuchuyimlang administrative area to review the damage and assess restoration efforts on key road links.
During his visit to the massive landslide site on National Highway-2 at Km 181.100 between Chuchuyimlang and Unger, Ozukum interacted with district administration and Public Works Department (National Highways) officials to assess the possibility of reopening the highway for commuters.
PWD (NH) officials informed him that the affected stretch lies in a subsidence zone and that the damaged portion of the highway is beyond restoration, making construction of a diversion road necessary.
Ozukum also met members of the Chuchuyimlang and Unger Village Councils and appealed to them to provide the required land for the proposed diversion. He urged the village authorities to extend full support and cooperation for the early restoration of the highway, saying the closure of NH-2 has disrupted the transport of essential commodities and other goods to Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Tuensang districts.
The Advisor later visited the landslide-hit road connecting Longleng and Mon districts via Salulamang from the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram junction at Chuchuyimlang town. He assured the Salulamang Village Council members that efforts would be made for the early restoration of the road.
Ozukum was accompanied by SDO (Civil) Changtongya Sangpangchang Longkumer, the EAC of Chuchuyimlang, SDO and other PWD (NH) officials, party workers, the vice-chairman and members of the Chuchuyimlang Town Urban Station, members of the Chuchuyimlang Village Council and representatives of the Unger Village Council.
