Students of Agape Higher Secondary School attend a session on “Community-Based & Sustainable Tourism” conducted by Longtili C. Sangtam at the school auditorium in Kiphire.
Kiphire, April 13 (MExN): Agape Higher Secondary School in Kiphire conducted a special on April 11 12 under the theme “Community-Based & Sustainable Tourism,” drawing attention to the district’s untapped tourism potential. The event, held at the school auditorium from 10:30 AM, was attended by students, teachers, and invited guests.
Longtili C. Sangtam, an entrepreneur and journalist from Kiphire, served as the resource person for the session. In his address, he emphasized the immense opportunities available in the tourism sector within Kiphire, citing the district’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and unique rural settings as key assets.
“We often wait for help from above and forget to start with what we have. But we need to learn to take the first step ourselves,” said Sangtam, urging students and the local community to creatively use their resources and build sustainable tourism initiatives from the ground up.
Sangtam pointed to successful local ventures like Singrep Adventure, run by Atsungba, known for its popular “floating cloud” experience. He also highlighted the Singtra Valley in Seyochung Village, where community collaboration has turned the area into a growing tourism destination. “This is a good example of how unity and local participation can bring real change,” he noted.
He further cited the Apple Festival and Kholar Festival as examples of community-led initiatives that boost tourism and support local farmers and artisans. “Tourism is one of the few industries where you get paid for traveling and showcasing what your place has to offer,” he said, encouraging students to consider tourism as a viable and fulfilling career path.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks from the school, which expressed appreciation for Sangtam’s motivational talk and his encouragement for youth to dream big while staying rooted in their land and heritage.
