While the large majority of people called in the New Year 2026 in high spirits, it was not so for some. Back to back fire incidents at Daropathar village and Railway colony marked the beginning of the New Year in Dimapur.
The fire at Darogapathar Block-B occurred around midnight, on New Year’s Eve, leaving atleast four families without a roof. The cause of the fire was suspected to be fireworks. The flames were brought under control by firefighters from Fire Station Central and Chümoukedima.
In the second fire incident, on January 2 evening, at Railway colony, one house was razed completely. The cause of the fire was unknown. As per local residents, one LPG cylinder exploded, but the Fire and Emergency Services were quick, bringing the flames from spreading to nearby houses. It was a 10-room structure. One family was affected.
