Kohima, September 26 (MExN): Akashvani Kohima on Thursday organised a series of events to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of Radio Broadcasting in India. The programmes included an essay writing competition for students, a health camp under the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan and the Hindi Film Song Competition 2025.

The essay writing competition was held at PM Shri School Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kohima. Designed for students of Class IX to Class XII, it attracted 30 participants who expressed their ideas, creativity and perspectives on topics related to radio’s past, present and future in the country. According to Akashvani Kohima, the primary objectives of the competition were “to commemorate the significant milestone of 90 years of Radio Broadcasting in India, encourage students to think critically and express themselves through the written word, and foster awareness among the youth about the crucial role of radio in national development and communication.” The event was described as a significant success in highlighting Akashvani Kohima’s commitment to educational and intellectual development.

As part of the commemorative activities, a health camp under the nationwide “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan” (Healthy Woman, Empowered Family) was also conducted at Akashvani Kohima. Organised in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Kohima district, the camp provided on-site medical services and consultations to staff and their families. The medical team comprised 26 personnel from the CMO office and attended to 59 patients for consultations and health checks, including testing and screening for anaemia, non-communicable diseases, tuberculosis, HIV and Hepatitis B. The camp aimed at “providing on-site medical services and consultations, promoting awareness regarding health and preventative care, and highlighting Akashvani Kohima’s commitment to the welfare and health of its staff and their families.”

The Hindi Film Song Competition 2025 was held at the Akashvani Kohima office premises as the valedictory function of the annual Hindi Pakhwada celebration 2025. Staff of Akashvani Kohima and representatives from member offices of the Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) Nagaland participated, presenting popular Hindi film songs. The programme began with a welcome address from the Head of Programmes, Ella Kayina, followed by the competition. Winners were felicitated with certificates and prizes. The first position was secured by DG Long from 45 Assam Rifles, the second by Prakash Sinha from the Office of the Postal Services, Kohima, and the third by Dhanpal from 105 Bn BSF.

The series of events concluded successfully with officers and staff commending the participants for their performances and reiterating the importance of continuing such cultural and educational activities to promote public service broadcasting and the use of Hindi.
