Rajeev Kumar Jain at Akashvani in Kohima on November 6
Kohima, November 6 (MExN): Director General of Akashvani, Rajeev Kumar Jain, praised Akashvani Kohima for its unique contribution to public broadcasting, highlighting its status as one of the few stations in the country to regularly air news and programmes in the highest number of local languages.
Speaking during an interaction with staff on the second day of his maiden visit to Nagaland, Jain stated that this multilingual outreach makes radio a true people’s medium, helping preserve linguistic diversity and strengthen Akashvani’s connect with communities.
He reaffirmed Akashvani's commitment to public service broadcasting and cultural preservation.
Noting that the organisation’s strength lies in its talent pool of skilled presenters, the DG highlighted the importance of continuously integrating fresh talent while retaining experienced voices. He encouraged the staff to create unique content and explore untold local stories that reflect the region's rich culture.

Earlier in the day, Jain joined the staff of Akashvani Kohima in a mass singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ at the station's premises to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the national song.
The DG also held a review meeting of the Program, News, and Engineering sections of the station.
Later, Jain called on Nagaland's Chief Secretary, Sentiyanger Imchen, at the Chief Secretary’s Office in the New Secretariat, Kohima. Accompanied by officials of Akashvani Kohima, he apprised the Chief Secretary of the functioning of the Akashvani network and briefed him on the various programmes and news broadcasts of the local station.
In the evening, the DG visited Doordarshan Kendra Kohima, where he inspected the studios and interacted with the staff.
Jain had arrived in the state on November 6.
