ENPO, WSSU condemn suspected IED blast; demand justice and peace

Tuensang, July 16 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has expressed deep sorrow and profound concern over the suspected IED blast in Chümoukedima, which claimed one precious life and left several others injured.

In a press release issued by its Press & Media cell, the ENPO condemned all acts of violence that threaten the peace, security, and well-being of the people. “Such unfortunate incidents only deepen suffering, create fear among citizens, and hinder our collective aspiration for a peaceful and prosperous future,” it stated.

Reaffirming its stance, the ENPO noted that since declaring Eastern Nagaland a Peace Zone, it has remained steadfast in fostering peace, harmony, and mutual understanding within its jurisdiction. At the same time, the organization emphasised that the values of peace must transcend geographical boundaries. “Lasting peace is indivisible,” it said, adding that the safety and stability of every part of Nagaland are essential for the well-being of all its people.

The ENPO appealed to every section of Naga society to continue nurturing the spirit of unity, reconciliation, and mutual respect. “Differences of opinion are natural in any society, but they should always be addressed through peaceful dialogue and democratic means,” it stated. “As a people who have endured decades of conflict and hardship, we have a shared responsibility to ensure that future generations inherit a land defined not by fear and violence, but by hope, justice and lasting peace.”

It also urged all stakeholders to rise above divisions, mistrust, marginalization, and discrimination. “Only by strengthening our bonds of brotherhood and working together in sincerity can we deny space to forces that seek to disrupt the peaceful coexistence of our people,” it added.

Extending its condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased Assam Rifles personnel, the ENPO conveyed prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident. “We stand in solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy,” the statement said.

The ENPO expressed confidence that the competent authorities would conduct a fair and thorough investigation and take appropriate legal action. It further appealed to all citizens to remain calm, exercise restraint, and continue upholding the values of peace, compassion, and harmony.

“May the Almighty grant comfort to the bereaved family, healing to the injured, and wisdom to all as we collectively strive for a peaceful and secure future for everyone,” it concluded.

WSSU: The Western Sümi Students' Union (WSSU) has condemned the suspected IED blast, terming it a “cowardly and inhuman act” and a direct attack on the hard-earned peace of Nagaland.

In a statement issued here, the student body demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident and urged the state administration and security forces to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly. The WSSU insisted that those responsible must be dealt with strictly under the law to prevent any recurrence of such violence.

The WSSU extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased Assam Rifles jawan and prayed for the speedy and complete recovery of all those injured.

The Union reiterated that violence in any form has no place in a civilised society and must never be allowed to undermine the peace, stability, and rule of law in the state. It stressed that lasting peace, security and the rule of law remain indispensable for the progress, harmony, and well-being of all its people.
