AMCO calls for harmony amongst communities

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 6 (MExN): The All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) has urged the people of the state to make every effort to reduce violence and promote peaceful coexistence.

A press release from the AMCO said it was deeply concerned by the prevailing situation of unrest and uncertainty in the state. Stressing on the need for peace and harmony in the state, it lamented that there is trust deficit and emotional disintegration amongst various communities.

It therefore asked the various communities living in Manipur to “accept and love one another.” “Mutual acceptance and love is the only way for a peaceful coexistence,” it added.

The AMCO further urged the state and central governments to come out with assurance for peaceful coexistence. It also appealed to civil society organizations against calling for bandhs and strikes but resort to other means to raise their grievances.

The AMCO meanwhile urged against the spread of misinformation which can promote violence, disunity and mistrust.

Calling upon inter faith forums to work together promoting nonviolence and a culture of dialogue, the AMCO informed that it has decided to observe a day of prayer for all Christians in Manipur, which will include riests, Pastors, Catechists, Evangelists, Youths and Women and various Christian Organisations in and around lmphal. The prayer gathering will be held at MBC Centre Church at 7:00am on November 8.
