Medziphema, March 1 (MExN): College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, CAU (I), Jalukie conducted a free awareness cum animal health and vaccination camp at council hall, Socunoma village on February 28.
The programme was conducted by expert faculties and students under the team leadership of Dr Tukheswar Chutia, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics and supervision of Dr I Shakuntala, Dean of the Veterinary College, Jalukie, Nagaland. The programme was funded by ICAR-National Research Centre on Equines, Hisar, Haryana under TSP-Fund.
A technical session was held under the programme to make aware the farmers on various aspects of livestock production, health issues and management. A series of lectures were delivered by the resource persons in the awareness programme followed by a farmer-scientist interaction.
Dr Tukheswar Chutia, Assistant Professor cum coordinator of the programme delivered on ‘importance of artificial insemination in livestock for better economic return.’ ‘Seasonal livestock diseases and their management’, ‘Scientific breeding for optimum production from farm livestock’ and ‘Common poultry diseases and their management’ were delivered by Dr Neithono Kuotsu, Assistant Professor, Department of VMD; Dr Kh Mahesh Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of AGB and Dr Sashitola Ozukum, Assistant Professor, Department of VCC, respectively.
A total of 61 participants attended the programme, including 49 farmers and 12 officials from the college. Free animal health check up, pregnancy diagnosis, treatment and anti rabies vaccination were carried out during the programme. Moreover, vitamins, mineral mixtures, probiotics, liver tonics, anthelmentics and other veterinary medicines were distributed to the needy farmers covering a total of 801 livestock comprising of 164 pig, 75 cattle, 36 buffalo, 22 dog, 31 cat and 452 poultry.
Earlier, Medievi, chairman of the village council welcomed the expert team and also encouraged the farmers to take maximum benefits through active participation.
