Drawing attention to our esteemed readers, through this column I would like to thank the government of Nagaland for taking initiatives in tackling the vexed Yimchunger-Tikhir issue. It is indeed because of their timely intervention the ugly turn of situation has been averted recently. In fact, it is a pains taking journey to discourse the reality of truth, yet truth will prevail one day or the other which all of us is longing for deserves treasuring. At this juncture of hue and cry, may I fervently request the concerned authorities to uphold the spirit of judging neither through media nor to remain mute spectator but by digging out the real facts with evidence and proof?
Secondly, it has been observed for years that our respected NGOs like; ENPO, ENSF, Naga Hoho, NSF, NMA, NBCC etc, are all busy with their schedules & issues best known to them; but the role played in Yimchunger-Tikhir imbroglio is untraced/unheard. It is pertinent to be cited that we, the Tikhir as a community are living in the extreme corner of Nagaland bordering Myanmar. We are neither foreigners nor we landless refugees. Perhaps we still practice and encourage preserving our culture & traditional rights as inherited by our forefathers. In doing so, if my community my community is going wrong beyond parameter which invites unwanted situations, then I think the concerned organizations or individuals must in good faith bring us to a right path through common dialogue. Just as the rest of the Nagas, the Tikhirs came along with the second migration group and settled where they are now. Yet, unfortunately when the modern system of government was introduced in Nagaland, the Tikhirs were unable to represent themselves due to the fact that they were uneducated, illiterate and unconscious of identity. Despite, the fact though we are a minority people, if our direction is moving in the right path and if not infringing the rights of other communities then the NGOs especially the ENPO & ENSF should initiate in solving the problem by providing unbiased justification. This will impress upon the concerned authorities to give a final judgment as to whether Tikhirs have the right to live in dignity at par with the rest of the Nagas or not.
Thirdly, I also acknowledge the Yimchungers for Christianization of Tikhir area, other wise we would be still in the dark. Today, we are compelled to live in an open world which keeps on changing rapidly. Now let us retrospect & introspect why, where and how it has gone wrong. According to my opinion, we have come thus far knowingly or unknowingly and the question of subjugation & assimilation is never a sustainable culture. In this modernized world, digging a trap is very dangerous, which may cause harm to ourselves, and a technique to remove the scar mark is impracticable. Therefore, it is a high time that we become more liberal & honest in hammering out the extremities by accepting & accommodating a real new chapter which will enable us to live in peace & harmony recognizing one another as social entity without jeopardizing the socio-economic & cultural co-existence.
Lastly, in supplementation to the above statement, Tikhirs may say they (Yimchunger) are in the habit of nullifying truth and they may say we are a ‘so-called’ community creating false stories, wherein people are fed with so many inputs of anomalies difficult to understand & judge. Therefore, if I am not wrong it is the need of the hour to solve the problem amicably once & forever by initiating a tripartite negotiation before it is too late and, the two entities should be courageous enough to accept the reality of the world as deemed fit. May the rich cultural-chain of the Naga society be well knitted & flourish forever & ever.
