Art & Culture feels needs for broader audience

Dimapur, September 5 (MExN): There is a need to help artists in Nagaland and their works exposed to a wider audience beyond, a recent discussion with artistes and officials in Kohima agrees. A number of “practical policies and modalities” are being explored “to identify and nourish creative talents in the state at the school levels,” the Directorate of Art & Culture said in a communiqué today.
The directorate said Dr. US Tiwari, Advisor to Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre in Shillong, visited Kohima during September 2-5 and held discussions with artists from Nagaland and several dignitaries to bring about art promotional programs in the state during the current year.
During discussions on the position and development plan of the visual arts in the state with the Director, Art & Culture on September 3, Dr Tiwari ‘agreed on a number of points in principle’ to be taken up in collaboration with the department.
“There is a need to facilitate the artists of the state and their works to be exposed to a wider audience beyond the state. The regional centre will organize art workshops and exhibitions to collect good works in the region and to explore market outlets for the same outside the state,” the department said, stating the ‘points’.
“Some practical policies and modalities shall be formulated to identify and nourish creative talents in the state at the school levels,” the note said.
A regional art camp-exhibition will be organized at the Heritage in Kohima, in October, 2011. The Governor of Nagaland will be requested to inaugurate the camp and exhibition, the directorate said. The director of Art & Culture will work out estimated cost for the camp to be approved by the Akademi.
“Other art promotional programs like Artist in Residency Programs, Art Workshops etc will follow in the near future,” the directorate said.
The advisor also visited the state museum, the Heritage and called on the Governor of Nagaland, during his stay in Kohima. He also met members of the Nagaland Arts Society and ‘held good interactions’ with them, the note said.
