Assam Rifles foil infiltration bid at Changlang district

Kohima/Dimapur, August 9 (MExN): The Jairampur Battalion of HQ IGAR (North) foiled “infiltration bid by Insurgents at Pangsau Pass” Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh on August 9, informed an official defence release. 

According to the press release from PRO (Def) Kohima, Lt Col Sumit K Sharma, the incident occurred when a “group of insurgents attempted infiltration in garb of bad weather, poor visibility and standoff fire at Pangsau Pass.”

“Following swift and immediate retaliation by Assam Rifles troops, infiltration bid has been foiled,” it claimed. 

One JCO (Junior Commissioned Officer) suffered minor injury in hand in the operation which had briefly ensued, it informed, adding: “Enhanced vigil in area continues.”

“Enhanced domination of Indo-Myanmar Border is being ensured due to multiple inputs by intelligence agencies of likely infiltration as also sabotage activities in view of upcoming Independence Day,” it added. 

However, a press release from the MIP, Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) maintained that a Joint tactical team of the Naga army and ULFA-I attack an Indian Army outpost based at Nampong sub-circle, under Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh at 4 AM on August 9 “causing heavy casualty.”

A comrade from the Strike Team suffered a minor injury but he is out of danger now, said, adding that the “attack” was in response to the boycott call of Independence Day announced by the Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) and the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-Independent).
