Kohima, May 7 (MExN): Expressing “resolute and unwavering solidarity” with the complainant and Angami women’s organisations seeking justice in the sexual harassment case involving IAS officer Reny Wilfred, the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has called for a fair, transparent and time-bound judicial process.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the union stated that any act compromising the safety and dignity of the people is unacceptable within civil society, describing such behaviour as being contrary to the cultural ethos and inherent values of the land.
Expressing concern over the impact such cases could have on younger generations, the ASU stated that students should not have to grow in an environment marked by fear or exploitation, particularly when allegations involve individuals entrusted with positions of public trust.
To ensure the security and morale of the younger generation, the union asserted that the trial should proceed without unnecessary delay or administrative interference, and urged the authorities to adhere to a strict day-to-day timeline so that justice is neither delayed nor denied.
Reaffirming its support for those seeking justice, the ASU said it would continue to stand with the affected parties and called for an impartial judicial process free from external influence.
Stating that it was not taking the issue lightly, the union asserted that it was prepared to go to any extent necessary to support those seeking justice and safeguard the dignity and integrity of the people.
“We demand a transparent and impartial judicial process, free from external influence, and we will remain steadfast in our pursuit until a definitive and just conclusion is reached,” it added.
The union further stated that it stands ready to act to ensure that the rule of law prevails and that the dignity of the land is upheld.
