Niuland, May 5 (MExN): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Tuesday called for a development model that safeguards cultural identity and community values while addressing the aspirations of people at the grassroots, during his visit to Niuland.

Interacting with leaders of civil society organisations, tribal bodies, village representatives, and government officials at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, the Governor said Niuland, one of Nagaland’s youngest districts, holds immense promise and potential.

Though still in its formative years, he said he was encouraged by the strong sense of unity, identity, and purpose among its people.

The coming together of different tribal bodies and community organisations reflects a spirit of cooperation and harmony, an essential factor for the district’s progress and development, he added, during the interaction chaired by Deputy Commisioner Niuland, TL Kiusumong Tikhir.

Stating that his visit was aimed at understanding the aspirations, challenges, and priorities of people at the grassroots level, Governor Yadav said development is most effective when it is inclusive and responsive to local needs.

He urged civil society organisations, village leaders, and the district administration to work in close coordination to ensure that government initiatives reach every household.

The Governor also stressed the importance of maintaining peace, strengthening community bonds, and nurturing values of integrity and responsibility.

As Niuland grows, he stressed, development must be pursued with a vision that balances progress with the preservation of the district’s rich cultural heritage and traditions.

Addressing community leaders, particularly village elders and tribal organisations, he said their role in guiding society and fostering cooperation remains crucial and their leadership and commitment, would play a key role in shaping the district’s future.

Governor Yadav also assured his continued support and expressed confidence that collective effort and shared responsibility could help Niuland emerge as a model district in the State.

During the visit, he also interacted with beneficiaries of various government schemes in the district, informed the State DIPR.

Officials from the departments of Health & Family Welfare and School Education presented departmental achievements, ongoing initiatives, and key challenges through presentations.

Earlier, representatives of the Western Sumi Hoho, Yimkhiung Arihako Niuland, and the Niuland District GBs Association shared brief remarks, while Niuland Town Sumi Totimi Loka presented a folk song.
