Kohima, September 29 (MExN): The Department of English, Baptist College Kohima, organized the 9th Edition of the BCK Literature Fest on September 25 at Rivenburgs Memorial Chapel, Kohima on the theme “The Living Anthology: Connecting the Scholar, the Author, and the Stage.”
The first session featured a Student Colloquium on the theme “Literature and Society.”
Eight students presented papers on diverse topics exploring the relationship between literature, culture, identity and social life.
The presentations covered indigenous narratives, oral traditions, popular literature, language, gender, cultural memory and the changing forms of literature in the digital age, showing how literature reflects society and its changing experiences.
The presenters were, Donensangle, BA 1st semester (Literature and Identity), Nungmei Konyak, BA 3rd Semester (Popular literature: A study of its relationship with readers, the market and society), (Shanti Bhator BA 5th Semesster (When Language Becomes a Home: Literature, Culture and the Preservation of Memory), Pewe-u Naro, BA 3rd semester, Sechü campus (Gender in Literature), Pipivi Sheqi BA 1st Semester (Indigenous Narrative: Preserving Culture, Identity and Collective Memory), James Rai, B.A 3rd Semester (Literature and the Transformation of the Naga Society), Kevizalie Vakha, B.A 5th semester (Literature and Identity: Innocence, Experience, and the Way We See Others) and Thejalelie Keyho, BA 5th semester Sechü campus (Literature in the Digital Age).
Pipi Sheqi and Thejalelie Keyho won the Best Presenter and Best Paper respectively.
The session on “Telling Our Stories: Memory, Identity and Imagination”, with Machipeibo Zeliang, Author & Assistant Professor, Department of English, St.Xavier College, Jalukie, explored the role of memory in creative and writing process.
The author recounted how his grandparents and mother's dreams, prayers and the stories they narrated inspired his work.
In Inter-College Open Mic Competition, Apuka Zhimo, BCK, Mhalevonuo Khezhie, Kohima College Kohima and Rokonuo Mekro, Alder College won the first, second and third position respectively.
