Calling upon every individual not to be a nuisance to the society by keeping themselves away from corruption and social evils, he said that there is peace and tranquility in a place where the "righteous" people live. He also said that the state government is making effort to ensure that "truth and justice" prevail in the state.

The three time Mizoram chief minister then pointed out that Mizoram is among the "pioneers" in the North East region to establish corruption ombudsman Lokayukta.

He then asked the gathering to be a role model in maintaining honesty and integrity for the society.

Also speaking on the occasion, Lokayukta chairman C. Lalsawta said corruption is rampant in underdeveloped countries.

During the programme, officials and students took pledge to have an ethical conduct in the building of an honest, non discriminatory and corruption free society.

Commencing from October 28, Mizoram, along with rest of the country, has been observing vigilance week across the state to promote probity in public life through citizen participation. The theme for the vigilance awareness week is 'Integrity - A way of life'.

In 2014, the state legislature passed the Mizoram Lokayukta Act. The corruption ombudsman was established in March this year and C. Lalsawta was sworn in as the fist chairman of state’s Lokayukta on March 11.
