Chümoukedima | February 11
Naga People’s Front (NPF) Secretary General and MLA AchumbemoKikon on February 11 reiterated the party’s longstanding position that the 16-Point Agreement and the creation of Statehood do not constitute the final solution to the Naga Political Issue.
Addressing party workers at a ‘grand reception’ organised by the NPF Central Headquarters at the NPF Office, Chümoukedima, to welcome the Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio from New Delhi, Kikon recalled that a consensus resolution during the Consultative Meeting held on September 12, 2024 stating that be resolved politically and handled at the political level.
Tracing the party’s historical position, Kikon noted that even after the signing of the 16-Point Agreement in 1960 and the attainment of Statehood in December 1, 1963, the NPF—then the Democratic Party of Nagaland (DPN)—did not treat it as the ultimate solution. He recalled that 12 elected members had resigned en masse in 1964 following the ceasefire, stating that they had fulfilled their mandate.
Kikon said that despite various nomenclatures, gatherings and meetings seeking to project the 16-Point Agreement and Statehood as the ultimate final solution, the party’s objective goes beyond.
“I would like to remind all of us that we our objective is beyond that. Our objective is bringing Naga people together,” he asserted.
Kikon further said that under the leadership of CM Rio Dr Neiphiu Rio, the delegation met the Union Home Minister in person and received assurance that the Naga political talks would be elevated to the political level.
