Kohima, July 20 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on Monday issued a weather advisory warning of localised thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall across several districts over the next four days.
According to the district-wise forecast, July 21 is likely to see thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall over Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Longleng, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Tseminyu and Noklak, while light rain is expected at a few places in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Kiphire, Meluri, Peren, Shamator and Tuensang.
The advisory said thunderstorm and lightning activity is expected to increase on July 22 across many districts, including Dimapur, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland, Tseminyu and Zunheboto, with light to moderate rainfall at scattered locations, while Kohima, Kiphire, Noklak, Shamator, and Meluri are likely to experience light rainfall at a few places.
For July 23, localised thunderstorms with lightning and light rainfall at scattered locations are expected over Chümoukedima, Longleng, Mon, Peren, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Zunheboto, with most other districts likely to receive light rain at isolated places or no significant weather warnings.
On July 24, the forecast said localized thunderstorms and lightning with light rainfall at scattered locations are expected over Kohima, Longleng, Meluri, Noklak, Wokha and Tuensang, while light rain at a few places is likely over Dimapur, Kiphire, Niuland, Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tseminyu and Zunheboto.
The NSDMA has advised residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, particularly during periods of thunderstorm activity, lightning, and localized heavy rainfall. Citizens have been urged to stay updated with official forecasts and advisories through the NSDMA weather website and the SAFER Nagaland mobile application.
