Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh today said that "when we don’t have human values and mutual respect then there is no meaning of following any religion.”
He was speaking as chief guest at the International Meitei Pangal Convention held at City Convention Centre, Imphal on Sunday. The Convention was organized by All Manipur Muslim Organizations’ Co-ordinating Committee (AMMOCOC).
The greatest religion is to serve the poor, needy and helpless people, Singh maintained adding that the greatest thing in life is to show and share love among the people and to live together.
"Let us all be united and march forward to bring positive development in the State,” he urged.
Singh then opined that whenever there is mistrust among the communities, the State will not develop and prosper.
"We must come forward and share our grievances, problems etc to have positive solutions", he added.
Maintaining that honesty and sincerity is a must to bring change in the State, the Chief Minister claimed that the gap between the hill and valley has been bridged with the efforts of the present government.
He also stated that many Meitei Pangal had sacrificed their precious lives for the State such as in Seven Years Devastation, Anglo-Manipur War, Indian Independence etc.
He then appealed to the Meitei Pangal community to adopt and continue to use the ancestral/traditional surnames given by the subsequent Kings of Manipur. "We must show to the world that Meiteis and Meitei Pangal have blood relationship", he added. He further informed that the socio-economic survey of the Meitei Pangal would be continued soon.
The Chief Minister released a special souvenir titled ‘Thong’ during the occasion.
