Dimapur, August 6 (MExN): The State BJP Nagaland Unit has expressed its concern on the issue of demand for a separate State by the Eastern Nagaland People Organization (ENPO) comprising the four eastern districts of Nagaland namely, Mon, Tuensang, Longleng and Kiphire.
A press note issued by K. James Vizo, spokesman BJP Nagaland stated that “lack of equal economic development” at par with the rest of the state has led to this demand, which is unfortunate at this juncture, when all are concerned for the ongoing peace process. The note also mentioned that during the 1st DAN Governments reign in the state, when the BJP was in the DAN alliance, the party supported the creation of DUD development-the department of Under Developed Areas which was established in June 23, 2003.
The note mentioned that establishment of this department was to look after various Under Development Area programme (UDAP) for the underdeveloped districts of Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, and Kiphire. The department also implemented the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) for the seven RD blocks sharing international boundary with Myanmar. These are Noklak and Thonokyu (Tuensang), Phomching, Tobu and Chen (Mon), Meluri (Phek) and Pungro (Kiphire).
The party also stated that it is also worth mentioning that for better development of these areas, apart from the regular funds, the 20 MLAs of these four districts gets a special fund of Rs. 50 lakhs each, which has been enhanced.
The State BJP unit in the note, therefore questioned when the government is doing its best for the development of these areas and giving them special packages, why there is lack of economical development. It also questioned if the reason is because of the failure of DUDA department or the inefficiency of the elected members. The State BJP unit opined that if there was proper utilization of the various developmental packages and funds, and also if the concerned authorities maintained transparency and accountability, this problem would not have arisen.
