Blossoming Talent: NU Students explore floral artistry at Medziphema Campus

A floral artistry workshop was organised by the Farmer's Cell, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, in collaboration with the District Administration, Medziphema, at the Multi-Purpose Hall, SAS, Medziphema, on October 31.

Speaking at the workshop, Medziphema ADC, James Swu expressed his happiness about the event, noting that it was the first of its kind in Medziphema. 

He highlighted the key aspects and benefits of the workshop while encouraging participants to engage with full enthusiasm to learn and apply the skills in life. 

Swu hoped the workshop would provide a learning experience and an opportunity to discover a new hobby, enhance creativity, and noted that working with flowers can be therapeutic and stress-relieving. 

He also emphasized the importance of flowers in human life, their benefits in boosting mental wellbeing, enhancing aesthetic appreciation and creativity, and fostering entrepreneurship.

In his address, Prof Dipak Sinha, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Medziphema Campus, NU, encouraged participants to actively attend the workshop with dedication, stating that it would enhance creativity and help them develop new skills. Prof. Sinha also stressed the importance of flowers in life and the need to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset.

The resource persons of the workshop, Dr Rokolhuu Keditsu, Associate Professor, Department of Horticulture, SAS, NU, and Dr. Nini R Kuotsu, Assistant Professor, Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development, Abdul Rahman, Department of Horticulture, SAS, NU, covered essential topics such as symmetrical equilateral flower arrangement, scalene shapes, resin floral art, centerpiece arrangement, Ikebana flower arrangement, and contemporary floral arrangement. 

Demonstrations of various flower arrangement styles and techniques were also conducted.

The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr Mary N Odyuo, Associate Professor, while the invocation was offered by Dr. Sentimenla Jamir, Assistant Professor, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sabbithi Pavan, Assistant Professor.  A total of 84 participants, both offline and online, attended the floral artistry workshop.
