CHÜMOUKEDIMA, DECEMBER 27 (MExN): The third annual sports meet of the Gorkha Students’ Union (GSU), Chümoukedima district, was inaugurated on Friday at the 1st NAP Ground here.
The opening ceremony, hosted by the Chümoukedima Town Gorkha Youth, marked the start of a four-day event aimed at promoting sports, unity and youth empowerment.
Community leaders, invited guests and participants from eight units attended the inaugural programme. Assistant Commissioner of Police (West Dimapur) Atu Zumvu attended as the special guest, while Nagaland Gorkha Association general secretary Prem Kumar Thapa was the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers underlined the role of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork and leadership among the youth, and stressed the importance of physical fitness and positive values through sporting activities.
An oath-taking ceremony and the inaugural kick-off were also held during the programme. The event concluded with the commencement of various sporting competitions amid enthusiastic participation from the community.
