
DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 27 (MExN): The Border Magistrate level peace coordination meeting between Nazira Sub-division of Sivasagar and Tuli in Mokokchung was held at Late Sentimeren Memorial Tower location at Longsapang, Kangtsung village jurisdiction. The meeting was chaired by Moa Sangtam, SDO (Civil) cum Border Magistrate of Tuli. The invocation was pronounced by N. Toshi, Pastor of Kangtsung Baptist Church.
Marnungba, council member of Kangtsung welcomed the gathering. He emphasized that peace is the utmost requirement and hence all the section of the public should understand and try to inculcate it. Moa Sangtam, SDO (Civil) cum BM of Tuli has read out the meeting minutes of the last BM level meeting held at Haluating on 19-08-2011. Among other things, as per the last meeting minutes, a trans-border volley ball tournament has been planned at Tuli in the first week of December 2011.
Interacting in the meet, Ranjan Kumar Das, DFO of Sivasagar has elaborated the problem faced by his department in surveying the northern boundary adjoining the Assam side in which he said that without the cooperation of the adjoining Naga villages the exercise will prove futile and as such he appealed to all section of the society to extend meaningful cooperation so that the actual boundary between the civilian and forest land could be mapped and understood by the authorities of both the states. Therefore, he informed the house that this matter has been officially communicated to DC Longleng district for initiating a joint survey for which further official action is awaited.
Border Magistrate Nazira Richand Ahmed informed the house that the Supreme Court may come out with some positive solution to the vexed Assam-Nagaland border issues and hence appealed all right thinking citizens of both the states to accept the vision and cooperate with the border peace coordination committee and make their living a livable one.
Temsu Wathi the coordinator of the BPCC has elaborated the mechanism of the peace coordination amongst the people of Assam and Nagaland which has been excelling well for the last several years to the gathering. He appealed them to come forward for building peace so that this committee can get more strength and establish peace and tranquility along the entire border belt. “We need to build more friendship through mutual trust with confidence amongst the people living along the border. The ice has already started melting and we need to ensure that it melts completely and turns in to water”, BP Bora, President of the Border Peace Coordination Committee (A-N) said referring to the recent goodwill developments in the border areas. He emphasised on the need to initiate more activities on games and sports where the border people should be involved frequently to enable them closer man to man contact. He applauded for the tireless effort put forward by the coordinator of this committee and said - Temsu is an “Assamese-Naga” who is omnipresence for all the developmental needs for the border mission and his initiatives are well accepted by the societies of both the states and this is a great boon for the border people and the mission.
The villagers of Anaki has been maintaining a very cordial relations with its neighbour Assam since time immemorial, it is the people from the plains that provoking the Nagas at recent times, C. Imli, village council member of Anaki-C said. He urged the government and the people of the neighbours to uphold the truth and show the honesty sincerely so that the much required peace prevails. M Sutsung, council chairman of Anakiyimsen has elaborated the sequence which led to deforestation of the so called Geleki reserved forest by the people of Assam side. He regretted that on the other hand, the people from the hills obeyed the government’s instruction not to cultivate on the so called reserved forest and thereby forfeited their own kheti land which is their traditional Jhumland toiled several hundred years by their ancestors. Takomanen, council chairman Wamaken cautioned that some section in the society is trying to derail the process. He therefore suggested to the people in the society to be extra vigilant. We use to have local peace committee with the people of Geleki-Athkhel area since long where the result was very encouraging at times of misunderstanding at different times amongst us, K. Meren of Kangtsungyimsen village council chairman quipped. Purna Phukan, a veteran Ahom scholar and BPCC executive pointed to the good age-old Ahom-Naga relations and urged to all citizens to embrace peace as peace is the prime requisite for settlement of any disputes.
The meeting was well represented by the village functionaries from Kangtsung, Kangtsungyimsen, Anaki Old, Anakiyimsen, Anaki-C, Wamaken, Wamakenyimsen, Yonglok, Bura Namsang and representative from Geleki-Athkhel area. The meeting ended with a goodwill lunch which was arranged and sponsored by the Kangtsung village council.
