BSI appoints new gen secy

Dimapur, August 13 (MExN): Following the retirement of Dr. BK Pramanik, the Bible Society of India appointed Rev. Dr. M Mani Chacko as its general secretary.
A press note received here stated that Rev. Dr. M. Mani Chacko is currently Director, Ecumenical Christian Centre Whitefield, Bangalore. He is ordained minister of the Church of South India and has served congregations in Kolkata and Chennai. Dr. Chacko is an academician among theologians. He earned his PhD from King’s College, University of London.
Prior to his assuming the Directorship of the ECC in 2006, he was Principal of the Gurukul Lutheran Theological College, Chennai. He taught there for 16 long years from 1990 and was Professor and Head of the Department, Old Testament Studies before being made Principal. He also taught at the University of Serampore prior to his ordination. As a Biblical Scholar, he was a visiting Professor to several institutions including the South Asia Institute of Advanced Christian Studies in Bangalore and the Faculty of Theology, University of Oslo, Norway.
Dr. Chacko has been published widely in several academic journals in India and abroad. He also has three books to his credit. As an ecumenical thinker, he has addressed Conferences and Consultations in countries such as China, Cameroon, South Africa, Germany, Hong Kong, Thailand and so on. A linguist, Dr. Chacko is well-versed in German, Greek, Hebrew apart from English and a clutch of Indian languages, the note stated.
