Can Youth organised its Family Meet-cum-1st Youth Ambassadors Conclave in Dimapur, on July 4. The event was held under the theme– ‘Stronger together: Building relationships, inspiring leadership and advancing our shared vision’ with the objective of fostering inter-generational partnerships and addressing developmental challenges facing the youth. It brought together community leaders, and youth representatives to collaborate on issues like substance abuse, academic dropouts, and community welfare through structured leadership and support systems.
The day-long event incorporated interactive activities, including motivational talks. Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) President Zasivikho Zakiesato, and DMC Councillor V Khekato Awomi were special invitees at the inaugural session.

DUCCF President Zasivikho Zakiesato, in his address, placed emphasis on the importance of discipline, unity, and shared responsibility in community building. While “charity begins at home,” Zakiesato reminded that true charity means thinking beyond one’s own household to support neighbors and the wider society. According to him, a resilient society requires collective action. “Under unity, there are three Ps: Peace, Progress, and Prosperity,” Zakiesato remarked, urging the young ambassadors to remain disciplined as they transition into future leaders.
DMC Councillor Khekato Awomi, who is also the State BJYM President, spoke on the need to invest in human potential. Referencing Can Youth’s ‘Strengthening Connections, Inspiring Change, and Building Tomorrow’ motto, Awomi argued against societal labels attached to school dropouts. He asserted that character, discipline, and hard work are just as important as academic certificates. To support this vision practically, Awomi announced a collaborative initiative offering full scholarships through Can Youth for underprivileged students and aspirants preparing for competitive examinations, including UPSC, NPSC, NEET, and JEE. “When you educate a child... you are not just changing one life, you are changing an entire family, and ultimately, an entire community,” Awomi stated.
In his keynote address, Can Youth Founder and Chief Functionary Jenpu Rhakho Rongmei spoke about the founding of the NGO. Can Youth was established following the death of his brother to substance abuse fifteen years ago. Rongmei expressed gratitude to mentors such as Father Jerry Thomas, Director of the Bosco Institute, Jorhat, who supported him when he dropped out of school and faced mental stress. Over the years, he said that it has spread its support network for children, school dropouts, and individuals in recovery. “Instead of striving to be perfect, let us all try to be sincere in whatever we do,” Rongmei stated, noting that chasing perfection often leads to competition and division.
