Chümoukedima, May 10 (MExN): Cricket Association Patkai (CAP) emerged as champions of the inaugural Patkai Premier Cricket League (PPCL) 2026 after defeating PCC Staff Cricket Club (PSCC) by seven wickets in the final played at Patkai Ground on Saturday.
Organised by the Patkai Cricket Club with support from G-Sports Nagaland, the tournament was held from April 29 to May 9, bringing together teams and cricket enthusiasts from the Patkai community.
The Department of Mass Communication, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), handled media coverage and liaison duties for the event.
After winning the toss, PSCC opted to bat first but struggled against CAP’s bowling attack and were bowled out for 95 runs in 12 overs. Ramreipam Kapai top-scored with 27 runs. Huvezo Thingo starred with the ball for CAP, claiming five wickets for 33 runs.
Chasing the target, CAP completed the run chase comfortably in 17.5 overs. Eniro Murry remained unbeaten on 38, while Panchanan Thakur contributed 19 and Kensibo Pamai added an unbeaten 18. For PSCC, Babasiba Hazarika returned figures of 2 for 12.
With the victory, CAP became the first-ever champions of the PPCL. Defaulters XI finished third, while Eagle Strikers secured fourth place.
Nagaland Ranji Trophy player and Patkai Class of 2023 alumnus Joshua Ben Ozukum attended the closing ceremony as special guest. Ozukum and Chara Enterprise, Dimapur, sponsored the prize money, with the champions receiving Rs 5,000 and the runners-up Rs 3,000.
The tournament also recognised individual performers. Obed Guria of PSCC was named Player of the Tournament, while Dhananjoy Singh of PSCC received the Best Batsman award. Babasiba Hazarika of PSCC was adjudged Best Bowler, and Huvezo Thingo of CAP was named Man of the Match for the final.
G-Sports Nagaland sponsored all tournament trophies and partially sponsored medals and jerseys.
According to the organisers, the inaugural edition of the PPCL highlighted the growing enthusiasm for cricket within the Patkai community and provided a platform for sportsmanship, teamwork and talent development.
