Dimapur, October 14 (MExN): Two persons were arrested in two separate cases by Dimapur Police with the help of CCTV footages which were installed in the premises of the business establishments. In the first case, base on a written complaint that an unidentified person has drawn a sum of Rs. 2,00,000/- (two lakhs) from the SBI A/C of the complainant with fake cheques and forged signature on September 28 from the SBI (Main branch), Dimapur police conducting investigation of the case zeroed in on a possible suspect after studying the CCTV footages installed at the bank, informed Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur in a
press note.
The note stated that the police were on the look-out of the suspect, when on September 11 the suspect came to the bank to make some more transactions, who was then taken into custody for questioning. On sustained interrogation, the suspect identified as Mhao Yanthan (27) son of Nchunbemo of Niroyo village, Wokha and a resident of Duncan Bosti, Dimapur admitted to the crime and revealed that during the early part of September as he was trying to open an account in the bank, he chanced upon a filled bank slip lying about in the counter in which the account number and other details of the complainant were filled.
As he was waiting in the bank, he came to learn that the bank issues Bearer Cheque book when applied for by the customer. Thus an idea developed in him whereby he went to the post office to check the address written in the bank slip and came to know that one of the post box lockers was unused and so he applied for the use of the same. Later, after forging the signature of the customer, the accused wrote to the bank for a new bearer cheque book to be sent to the new post box opened by him. After receiving the bearer cheque book, he forged the signature of the customer in two cheques of one lakh each and withdraws the money from the bank.
On his revelation the money withdrawn by him was recovered and handed over to the rightful owner. A case of forgery for cheating was registered against the
accused.
In another unrelated incident, acting on a complaint received from the manager of Space M that a sum of Rs 5,05,000/- in case and cheque was stolen from the office of the mobile shop on October 8 at around 9:30 to 10:00 pm which was captured in the CCTV installed in the premises, Dimapur police based on the CCTV footages arrested one Sukhaho Zhimo (27) son of Vekato of Ghukiye village, Zunheboto and a resident of Purana Bazar from Nehoto village. the arrested accused was a former employee of the proprietor of the shop who admitted that he stole the keys to the shop from the house of the proprietor and went to the shop at night to steal the money which he had knowledge of when he was working for the proprietor. On the revelation of the accused the stolen money was recovered which was kept hidden buried under the ground. The money was returned to the rightful owner and a case of house-breaking in order to commit theft registered against the accused in this connection, the note stated.
