Dimapur, September 25 (MExN): The Chandel Naga People’s Organization (CNPO), Naga Women Union Chandel and Naga Students’ Union of Chandel today refuted allegation from transporters associations in Manipur that two a driver was severely assaulted by “bandh” enforcers.
“Contrary to their allegations, the incident that took place was the result of two vehicles trying to overtake each other. The victimized driver whose vehicle tyre got flattened was hit by another vehicle and met the accident,” a statement from the CNPO stated today.
Police personnel on duty on that day are witnesses to the incident, the organizations stated.
The organization clarified further that the incident took place near the vicinity of Thamlakpokpi village should not be a cause to construe that the village had any hand in the matter. “The bandh is enforced by the Nagas to protect their collective land. The villagers are out of the purview of the incident and therefore targeting any of the villagers would be out of any conventional human law and will note be tolerated,” the organization said.
The organizations also reiterated that the bandh does not target any community but against the policy of the Manipur state government “which is playing with the land of the Nagas.”
Also, vandalism allegedly committed by Tata Sumo Welfare Association Kakching and Moreh Road Transport & Business Association is denounced by the Naga organizations. The Naga organizations have warned them to “think twice” before taking drastic steps.
