Dimapur, June 15 (MExN): The College of Nursing, Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), in collaboration with Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Singrijan, conducted a comprehensive School Health Programme on June 9 for students of Classes VI to XII, benefiting a total of 315 students.

As part of the programme, a detailed health assessment was carried out to evaluate the general health status of the students and identify health-related concerns. The exercise included basic physical examinations and health screening, with a focus on promoting preventive healthcare among adolescents.

The health assessment was conducted by a nursing faculty team led by Professor L. Lidziisa Mao, Associate Professor Neiketounuo Medom, BSc tutors Akumtoshi S. Longkumer and Seropila Anar, along with students of the eighth semester BSc Nursing, third-year GNM and second-year Post Basic BSc Nursing courses.

The programme also featured an interactive health education session covering topics such as sex education, menstrual hygiene management and the importance of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in preventing cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases. Resource persons highlighted the need for personal hygiene, healthy lifestyle practices and timely medical care while encouraging greater health awareness among adolescents.

Earlier, on June 2, a team from the Chief Medical Officer's Office, Dimapur, led by Dr. Katila Longchar, visited the school to sensitise students on the importance of HPV vaccination. A parent-teacher meeting was subsequently organised to educate parents on the role of the vaccine in protecting adolescent girls from cervical cancer.

As part of the Government of India's nationwide HPV vaccination programme, GHSS Singrijan successfully conducted an HPV vaccination drive on June 15 for eligible girl students aged 14 to 15 years. A total of 33 girls voluntarily received the vaccine after obtaining informed consent from their parents.

The vaccination was administered by the healthcare team from the Singrijan Primary Health Centre Cold Chain Point.

The school expressed gratitude to the medical teams from CIHSR, the CMO Office, Dimapur, and the Singrijan PHC Cold Chain Point for their dedication and commitment to safeguarding the health of students through preventive healthcare initiatives.
