Clarity of Sin

Richard Humtsoe

God knows that acrimony and detestation can cause severe headache; a desire for revenge can cause ulcers.

These attitudes hurt other people too. God showed his love for us by setting certain limits, or laws, as protection. For us to go outside these limits is to sin. Sin is disobeying God’s laws. It is saying to God, “I am more important than you. I don’t take your word as final authority” Sin is rebellion. First John 3:4 says, “Whoever sins is guilty of breaking God’s law, because sin is breaking of the law” Everything is lawful if it is inside the limits that God has set. We might think that something doesn’t hurt us or others and be mistaken in our belief or think that it could not be a sin if it hurt others while performing Govt. official duty but for paradigm, if a pregnant and innocent woman is arrested while she was all alone at home and illegally detained in custody is in violation of human rights and therefore it is a sin because the woman has been deliberately harassed through unconstitutional means.

Man and woman are equally important so a woman must be made to feel that first and foremost she is an autonomous human being with all the concomitant civil rights and opportunities, before she is seen as a mother, wife or sister, she has to be viewed as a productive resource in the economy of the country and not merely as a free house worker and child bearer. Women should be motivated to provide true strength to programmes for safeguarding the environment and conservation of energy resources. Unacceptability of violence against women should be indicated in all objectives and programmes of the governance. Participation by women in conflict resolution is invaluable to preserve the sanctity of human rights.

Our State has a long record of violation of human rights of the citizens; this is as much because of the insensitivity which has now become the hallmark of our politicians, as due to the fact that governments are the biggest violators of human rights. A person that does not speak up against the violation of human rights thus acts against the pledge it has taken to uphold the constitution.

Man’s opinions change. For a while he thinks one thing won’t hurt us and later he says it will. The only safe conduct for us is obedience to the laws that God has set, whether we understand the reason for them or not. Whoever continues to sin belongs to the devil, because the devil has sinned from the very beginning. It was Satan that brought sin into the world but this does not free man from blame. Man is responsible too.

Yes, all people are sinners. “Everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s saving presence” (Romans 3:23) Sin came into the world through one man, and his sin brought death with it. As a result, death has spread to the whole human race because everyone has sinned (Romans 5:12)

God has given us a way to escape the punishment of sin which is spiritual death and everlasting separation from him. The way is through accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior.

God has shown us how much he loves us – it was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us! (Romans 5:8)

If we confess our sins to God, He will keep His promise and do what is right: He will forgive us our sins and purify from all our wrongdoing (1 John 1:9)

Therefore, everyone must confess their sins whether poor or rich, kings or slaves as we are all equal in the eyes of God.
