DIMAPUR, APRIL 23 (MExN): The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) have decided to suspend its proposed indefinite voluntary shutter down of business establishments, following an invitation from the Government of Nagaland for dialogue.
This decision comes after the government acknowledged the concerns raised by CNCCI and nine aggrieved District CCI regarding the lack of nominee representation in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
Earlier, the CNCCI, in coordination with the District Chambers, had announced plans for a statewide business shutdown from April 24 onwards in protest of what they termed as continued inaction by the State Government over demands for “equitable justice in the nomination of District CCI representatives to the District ULBs.”
In response to the threat of shutdown, the Government of Nagaland, through the directive of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, invited the CNCCI and representatives from all nine affected District Chambers for a high-level meeting.
During the deliberation, CNCCI and the aggrieved District Chambers clearly reiterated that the demand for nominee representation in ULBs is non-negotiable, as it is essential to protect the interests of the business community and consumers alike, a press release issued by the CNCCI on Wednesday stated.
The government, acknowledging the concerns, requested two weeks to resolve the issue. In the spirit of cooperation and dialogue, the CNCCI said it has decided to keep the proposed indefinite voluntary shutter down—originally scheduled for April 24—in abeyance for a period of two weeks. It earnestly hoped that the Government will act responsibly and resolve the issue within the stipulated time frame.
Meanwhile, the CNCCI directed all 17 District Presidents and Executive Members to attend the Executive Council Meeting scheduled to be held on April 25 at its headquarters in Dimapur.
