Kohima, July 21 (MExN): The Nagaland government has constituted three-tier committees at the State, district and block levels for effective implementation of the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) in the State, in pursuance of directives from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Social Welfare, the committees have been formed to “strengthen coordination, monitoring and implementation of drug demand reduction initiatives at the State, district and block levels.”
The State Level Steering and Monitoring Committee will be chaired by the Chief Secretary, with the Secretary of Social Welfare serving as Member Secretary. It comprises senior officials including the Home Commissioner, Commissioners and Secretaries of Health & Family Welfare, Rural Development, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, School Education, Higher & Technical Education, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Secretaries of Information & Public Relations, Youth Resources & Sports, and Women Resource Development. Three NGOs working in the field of drugs including thr Ark Foundation, Youth Mission and Kripa Foundation have also been included as members.
At the district level, the Deputy Commissioner will chair the committee, with the District Welfare Officer as Member Secretary. Other members include the Superintendent of Police, District Legal Services Authority, Medical Superintendent, District Education Officer (representing Higher and School Education), CPDO and two NGOs nominated by the Deputy Commissioner.
The Block Level Committee will be chaired by the Block Development Officer, with the CDPO as Member Secretary. Members include Head Masters/Teachers from government primary schools, two Self Help Groups nominated by the BDO, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and two youth groups/local leaders nominated by the BDO.
The notification stated that the committees will oversee planning, coordination, monitoring, awareness generation, rehabilitation support and community-based interventions under NAPDDR and NMBA. The State Level Committee will meet quarterly, while District and Block Level Committees will meet monthly, it added.
